Senior Network Engineer
General Experience
  • Seven (7) years of progressive experience in planning, designing, implementation, and analyzing data or telecommunications networks
Specialized Experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Ethernet, TCP/IP, ATM, Frame Relay, DWDM, SONET, network analysis/management tools and techniques
  • Experience with long distance and local carrier management
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience administering and supporting Novell Netware and Windows 2000/2003 Servers in a WAN environment using TCP/IP including evaluating current networks, developing solutions, and implementing change as necessary
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Cisco based LAN, WAN and MAN
  • Solid understanding of networking principles
  • Must be able to analyze reported problems efficiently and provide solutions
  • Must have strong project/time management skills
  • Must be customer service oriented and be able to work well in stressful situations
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to solve problems in a timely and efficient manner
  • Must be able to work effectively on a multitude of tasks
  • CNE or CNA required

Responsibilites

  • LAN/WAN administration, support, configuration and maintenance (e.g., bridges, routers, modem pools, gateways, etc.).
  • Provide Novell System Administration and User Support
  • Responsible for attending and answering user support phone calls
  • Provides user support for desktop and network
  • Manage setup and configure ZenWorks
  • Provide back and restore support
  • Manage Groupwise administration and support
  • Firewall administration and maintenance
  • Remote site LAN, WAN, and desktop support
  • Other duties, as assigned by Project Manager
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of large data communications or telecommunications networks
  • Plans and monitors the installation of communications circuits to meet short and long-term communications requirements
  • Performs hardware/software analyses to provide comparative data of performance characteristics and suitability within the existing systems environment
  • Prepares trade-off studies and evaluations for vendor equipment
  • Generates network monitoring/performance reports for LAN/WAN utilization studies
  • Recommends network design changes/enhancements for improved system availability and performance

Education

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline; Master's Degree is preferred.

Travel

  • This position requires frequent travel within the State of Maryland, mostly to Baltimore and Annapolis metro area. Occasional travel will be required to other cities within Maryland
