Arusha, Tanzania - July 17th, 2007- Robert L. Wallace, on behalf of Global Vessels, Inc. is pleased to announce the dedication of a orphanage building in the name of his late mother, Irene G. Wallace. The orphanage is located on the campus of the Tanzania Seventh-day Adventist College--an educational campus that is presently seeking University status.
Global Vessels workers from all over the world traveled to Arusha, Tanzania to be in attendance for the dedication of the completed Irene G. Wallace building. Mr. Wallace gave a lively and uplifting speech that was translated for those in attendance. The orphanage was created for children who have lost their parents and family members to HIV/AIDS. As of July 2007, children have already started to move into the orphanage, which also has teaching facilities on its grounds.
Global Vessels is a Christian organization that is dedicated to the uplifting of humanity. They have organized and participated in short term mission projects globally since their founding in 1998. The main focus of the organization is the construction of buildings; but volunteers also get involved in other outreach projects. It is estimated that by the year 2010, millions of children will be left homeless because of the high incidence of AIDS in Tanzania. Global Vessels, Inc. has chosen to focus mainly on being proactive in helping to meet this urgent need for housing for children in the communities. Since 1998 they have been able to build numerous buildings for those in need, and are presently still building the orphanage village for displaced children in Arusha, Tanzania. The Irene G. Wallace building is one of the main buildings on the orphanage campus.
Irene Geneva Wallace was born on October 29, 1927 in Washington, DC. A remarkable woman by any standard, Irene successfully raised five sons while endlessly confronting poverty, violence, uncertainty, and ignorance. While in her senior years, Irene attended college and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. She later went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education.
Endowed with a passion for educating young children, she devoted her life to rescuing, reviving, mentoring, and developing hundreds of young children forgotten by society and downtrodden by the whims and indifference of government.
